Familial Madness (younger generations)

What do, at the end of the day, younger generations know? I'm speaking here about the immigrant populations. The ones that have already been ripped from what they know (the parents) and then find themselves in the middle of some foreign land (the parents, that is). What does one do then? Simply throw the children into the imbroglio and let them swim by grasping whatever they can at school. Jingoism, whatever works, I suppose.

With regard to the this very specific family of which we're talking, they were trying to cut lose from their previous more primitive past. But perhaps this was merely a modern manifestation of that past? Hard to say. They were successful. Most technocrats are. Yet what drove one son to say no and move into something bordering on madness?
